About the Artist

Gay Gillies has been an artist her entire life. Her art represents emotional responses and connections to her immediate environment. The immediacy of her strokes and gestures within a structure reflect her personal and raw response to questions, observations and dreams. While her background in dance has often been a starting point of her exploration, Gay draws inspiration from a broad and continually changing range of themes and works with many different mediums including fresco, oil, charcoal, paper, plaster, clay, and bronze. Much of her work melds ancient techniques using her own modern alchemy.

Gillies studied at a variety of schools including: The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Parson School of Design; Fashion Institute of Technology; Bellas Artes (Barcelona, Spain). She makes and teaches art in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, where she lives with her husband and her dog, Jack.
